Aircraft Painting 101 is an excellent 2 hour video in which Sam James takes you, in detail, through the finishing, priming, and painting of his RV-4 with the Dupont Veriprime and Chromabase systems.

This video is not as finely produced as some others, but the vast quantity of practical information it contains more than makes up for it. In it Sam James takes you through the complete process of working an metal wing, a fiberglass wheel pant, and detailed custom design on a horizontal stabilizer.

Basic Composite Construction Techniques is a demonstration of basic fiberglass techniques as applicable for aircraft. Discussions on materials include uni and bi-directional cloth, resins, flox, micro balloons, foam, core materials, peel ply, etc. Tool use covers brushes sqeegies, knives, scales, pumps, hot wire tools, etc. Techniques demonstrated include basic sandwich techniques, corners, edges, and joints, hot wiring, etc. Also included is a basic discussion of setting up your layups to conform to various load bearing areas.

Care and Handling of Borescope Equipment describes the basic care and use of Borescope equipment as used for inspecting the internal passages of Turbine engines. The major components of both flexible and rigid borescopes are shown including the light sources, positioning clamps, and the precision optical telescope. This video demonstrates the assembly of components, how it is used and inserted into the engine, conditions such as heat, vibration, and radiation which will damage the equipment and especially the fiber optic components, cleaning the components, and proper storage.

Handling procedures for composite aircraft parts in the manufacturing plant and major repair facility. This film reviews the nature and durability of composite parts and cores. The proper techniques of moving, lifting, storage, and cleaning of parts are covered as well as techniques of de-bagging, handling parts during lay-ups, and setting up for the autoclave.

Part 1: An excellent presentation of the causes, recognition, treatments, and prevention of corrosion on aircraft. The 8 basic types of corrosion are shown and discussed including uniform, pitting, galvanic, concentration cell, stress, exfoliation, filiform, fretting, and intergranular. Visual and non-destructive techniques of recognition are demonstrated, plus locations on an aircraft most prone to corrosion, methods of corrosion removal, and the basics of a corrosion prevention program. The film ends with a visual quiz identifying problem areas and why.

Part 2: The elements of a corrosion control maintenance program produced specifically for commuter airlines, but applicable to any fleet operator from corporate jets to light general aviation aircraft. Some subjects include evaluation aircraft for corrosion potential based on age and operating conditions, locating areas on an aircraft most susceptible to corrosion, levels and types of corrosion, creating regular inspection schedules, and short term intervention techniques between major overhaul periods.

This is a military training film made in the 1960s. Once you get beyond the old style voices and video production techniques (some of it pretty funny), you'll find a lot of good information on working with and maintaining Plexiglas canopies, windows, and windscreens.

Helicopter Fundamentals guides viewers through the important concepts and vagaries of helicopter flight. This award-winning production makes explanations come to life with in-flight demonstrations and the latest 3D animated graphics. Aerodynamics are covered in detail from retreating blade stall to autorotation. Cockpit point-of-view footage helps viewers experience manoeuvres from the pilot’s perspective.

Repairing Structural Tubing is a 1950's vintage training film produced by the U.S. Department of Education demonstrating the inspection and repair of 4130 Chromolly steel tube airframes. In the film, a truss tube is found bent and set back into shape with forms and clamps. Then a longeron is found to be cracked and so the section is replaced with a welded inner sleeve and splice. Although this is an older film, the methods demonstrated are still appropriate and valid when maintaining or restoring these vintage tube and fabric type airframes.

Tapered & Straight Reamers is a two part historic film on the use of tapered and straight reamers which is still highly relavent for those engaged in precision metal benchwork.

Taps & Dies is an historic film demonstrating the use of taps and dies for the hand cutting of internal and external threads. Each step of this basic bench work procedure is shown including locating and drilling an initial hole, selecting of the proper size drill and tap, the use of taper, plug, and bottoming taps, checking that the tap is square to the hole, the hand threading and lubrication process, and techniques for removing a broken tab.

Although Taps & Dies is a black & white film produced in the 1950’s, the techniques and skills shown are as valid now as they are then, and they are an indispensable learning tool for anyone performing this type of benchwork work in the shop.
